In Newton Corner

Newton’s oldest village, and some of its largest houses

Newton Corner was settled in the late 1600s at Washington and Centre Streets and holds an unusually complete architectural record — 1840s Greek Revival and Italianate, an 1870–1910 boom of Queen Anne and Colonial Revival around Farlow and Kenrick Parks, and the architect-designed mansions of Farlow Hill. Three churches in the district are landmarks in their own right, including H. H. Richardson’s 1885 Immanuel Baptist Church.

Homes in Newton Corner

The Farlow and Kenrick Parks district covers sixty acres and was built in two waves — Greek Revival and Italianate from the early 1840s, then the railway-and-streetcar boom of 1870 to 1910. Farlow Hill is thirty-seven large, generally architect-designed houses on ample lots, built from 1899 into the late 1920s on John Farlow’s subdivided forty-acre estate; a 1907 newspaper called it “Newton’s choicest residential section.” Colonial Revival dominates, with Craftsman, Tudor Revival and even Streamline Moderne present.

Two practical things shape cleaning here. First, these are among the oldest and largest houses in Newton — Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne and Colonial Revival with plaster, radiators, wide-board floors and heavy millwork. Second, the Mass Pike was driven straight through the village in the 1960s, splitting it in two and leaving the interchange rotary locals call the Newton Supercollider. Turnpike-adjacent homes take on noticeably more road soot on glass, sills and porches than the rest of the city. There is no local historic district here.

FAQ

House cleaning in Newton Corner: FAQ

Do you clean the large older homes on Farlow Hill?

Yes. Architect-designed houses of that scale carry a great deal of trim, panelling and staircase detail, and they take longer than square footage alone suggests — we scope them to the house rather than a formula.

Does living near the Turnpike change what a clean involves?

It can. Homes close to the Pike pick up more road soot on window glass, sills, porches and the rooms nearest opened windows, so those areas usually need more attention than they would elsewhere in Newton.

How much does house cleaning cost in Newton Corner?

It depends on the home’s size, its condition and how often you clean. Use the estimate form on this page or call 508-561-9458 for a same-day quote — no in-home visit required.

Do you offer weekly and biweekly cleaning in Newton Corner?

Yes. Most Newton clients are on a weekly, biweekly or monthly schedule, and you can change the frequency any time with no contract.

Do you bring your own cleaning supplies?

Yes — our team arrives with the supplies and equipment needed for a thorough clean. If you prefer particular products in your home, just tell us.
