Recurring, deep, move-in/move-out and post-construction house cleaning for Newton Lower Falls — the small river village around Grove and Washington Streets. Insured and owner-operated.

Newton Lower Falls is the smallest of Newton’s thirteen villages — a pocket of about fifteen streets on the far western edge, wrapped by the Charles on three sides and cut off from the rest of the city by Route 128. It is a different place from Newton Upper Falls upstream, and different again from Wellesley Lower Falls directly across the river. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on Concord Street, built around 1813, is the oldest church building in Newton.

The signature surviving housing is Greek Revival on Grove Street from the 1830s and 1840s, with the oldest building in the village at 2345 Washington Street dating to about 1755. Residential building largely stopped in the late nineteenth century when papermaking moved west.
Then came two waves of demolition — Route 128 in the 1950s and urban renewal in the 1970s — which took mill-owner mansions, worker cottages, a church and schools. What is left is a genuinely split stock: a handful of eighteenth and early nineteenth-century houses with plaster, wide-board floors and original trim, and a large body of 1950s and 1960s ranches and colonials which are simpler, drywall-era and usually on their second or third renovation. Newton-Wellesley Hospital sits in this village on Washington Street, and it is the largest employer here.
